What type of phone is it?
The Kid-Safe Smartphone is available on Samsung Galaxy devices, which run the Android operating system. We are selling the Galaxy A15 and A25 5G Smartphones and the Galaxy Tablet A9 set up ready to go; prices range from $299 to $549.
Out of the box, it is locked to the most restricted level — phone calls, texts and camera only. Safe Surfer technology is also available on select Samsung tablets.
Where can I buy it?
Kid-Safe Phone/Tablet is available in-store at New Zealand retailers or online.
How much does it cost?
Kid-Safe Phone/Tablet is a subscription service to cover the ongoing running costs of Samsung & Safe Surfer cloud services. See the Pricing section above.
Physical device purchases include a year of free usage.
What's the difference between this and the Safe Surfer Android App?
Kid-Safe Phone/Tablet supports features not allowed or possible on the Play Store. Samsung Knox prevents some workarounds possible on the Play Store version of the app.
What is Safe Vision?
We've partnered with Safe Vision to provide a safe, parent-supervised YouTube experience for Kid-Safe Devices.
Safe Vision is a separate app that allows you to grant access to particular YouTube videos and channels. When you switch to the Explorer profile, you will be given the option to unblock YouTube and use either Safe Vision or the YouTube app with varying levels of automatic filtering.
At what age should I purchase a Kid-Safe phone for my child?
In the Essentials profile, the only available functions are texting, calling, and taking pictures. So your child should be old enough to understand and benefit from these features.
Once you and your child are ready to explore more of their device, you can allow some non-social media apps. We recommend delaying access to Social Media sites as long as reasonable, due to their addictive nature and risk of exposure to harmful content.
Ultimately though, it's your decision! The Safe Surfer dashboard makes it easy to undertake your digital parenting journey.
Can I remove Safe Surfer from the device?
Yes - by selecting the "Unrestricted" profile in the Safe Surfer dashboard and then entering your admin PIN. This will make the device function just like a regular Samsung device.
